What is frozen shoulder?

What are the three phases of frozen shoulder?

Frozen shoulder is unusual among orthopedic conditions in that it follows a predictable arc. Knowing which phase you are in changes what treatment makes sense — and prevents a lot of unnecessary panic.

Phase 1: Freezing (roughly 6 weeks to 9 months). Pain comes first and dominates. It often starts as a vague ache and escalates, becoming worst at night. Range of motion gradually shrinks, and because pain drives you to avoid movement, the loss accelerates.
